Der Kellermeister - Riesling and I
Riesling + I

Dessert wine Wine dessert

Riesling Sorbet I like sampling at Whole Foods, particularly when I can do a horizontal tasting of Wine Cellar Sorbet's latest vintage. These sorbets taste surprisingly close to what the label says, because they are made with real wine. The 2005 vintage is now on the shelves at a store near you. The Cabernet Sauvignon sorbet seems to lack the fruit intensity which the '04 vintage showed so beautifully. The Riesling, however, is superb. Notes of citrus fruit and peach, full body and a creamy mouthfeel. It got some residual sugar - it's a sorbet after all - but it's not sirupy or cloyingly sweet. The wine for the Riesling sorbet comes from New York wineries.
